Use tinted goggles for the bright sun made worse by the glare from the bright sun, expect waves and choppy water often worse second lap which can demoralise you causing extra fatigue on the second lap you have been warned.
Expect sea water temperatures to be about 70 degrees. Wetsuits advisable.
Pan cake flat 180km single lap on wide high ways apart from a couple of climbs total height is 164 feet. Reasonable surface but be warned if you do not stretch when you can or move around on the bike you will be rigid and stiff when you get off the bike to run the Ironman marathon.
Often windy later on during the bike.
Two lap course along the coast of Mexico with highest point 16 feet, if you pace yourself have adequate nutrition on the run expect a personnel best Ironman marathon split.
Flat course little shade so use a large cap or visor. Clear mile markers and feed stations every mile.
Sun sets early and gets cold which uses up extra energy.
VIEWS – Competitors should be focussed on drinking and eating at regular intervals easy to get carried away with going fast.
SPECTATORS – Good views of 2 lap swim, bike only one lap run 2 laps lots of supportive spectators. Place to visit is the Andrew State Park for fishing, hiking and sand dunes.
This is a good Ironman to view loved ones and competitors. If you check out the course you can see the same triathletes 8-10 times during the race. A seaside resort with plenty of good eating places to suit your budget.
