Calories needed during a Triathlon
How to work out calories expenditure during a Swim Bike Run work out or Triathlon?
Swimming requires 0.13-0.16 calories per minute per kilo
Hard swim 0.16 calorie minute kilogram x 60 (minutes) x 70 KG athlete = 672 calories per hour.
Cycling requires 0.15 -0.17 calories per minute per kilogram of body weight.
Hard bike 0.17 calorie minute kilogram x 60 (minutes) x 70 KG athlete = 714 calories per hour.
Running requires 0.10 -0.20 calories per minute of body weight of
Hard run 0.17 calories minute kilogram x 60 (minutes) x 70 KG athlete = 714 calories per hour.
WEIGHT OR STRENGTH TRAINING
Weight training uses up about 0.10 calories a minute x 60 x 70 kilo = 420 calories per hour.
We are all individual and have our own strengths and weaknesses. Some of us are good in the cold or in hot conditions, some prefer flat and others are better suited to hilly courses.
Surface (off road) conditions (windy) temperature (hot or cold) and efficiency (good or wasteful energy) will effect your calorie requirements. As we get fitter and even lose % fat we may need fewer calories for a faster speed than we needed a few months ago.
I have listed above just a few of the factors that alter our calorie requirements during swimming cycling running and triathlons.
