XXX1 Summer Olympic 2016
The IOC made their announcement in Copenhagen Denmark 2nd October 2009.

4th time lucky for Rio se Janeiro Brazil has been selected to host the 2016 summer Olympics.
Rio had failed in 1936 then in 2004 and again in 2012 and now become the first South American nation to host the Olympic Games.

One minute they were candidate city then
Once announced they would hold the 31st Olympics.
USA President Obama had travelled 4,000 to Copenhagen to give last minute talk why Chicago should be picked for 2016
President Obama looked disappointed to see Chicago be eliminated in the first round.
Tokyo went out in the next round.
This meant that Rio de Janeiro and Madrid were in the final 2.

Rio promised to being able to deliver all the promises for a fantastic Olympics

Rio has a great deal of work to do on the infrastructure like building roads and stadiums, so has a lot to be done for the 2016 olympics.

Rio is now up and coming from financial problems and past high crime rates is much improved.
It is estimated that it will generate over 200,000 jobs between now and 2016.
The Summer Paralympics will be held after.
