The 10th Challenge Roth on 10th July 2011 had 2 world records for the Iron distance triathlon.
The record the Iron distance was broken in Roth in 1997 by Luc Van Lierde 14 years ago but was broken just 7 days ago.
Marino Vanhonacker from Belgium broke the Iron distance record in the Austria Ironman.
Andreas Raelert broke the record 7 DAYS LATER on 10th July 2011 in a scorching time of 7:41:33 in temperatures that exceeded 24 degrees.
Over 160,000 spectators watched Andreas and Chrissie compete faster than anyone else on the Challenge Roth course.
Andreas Raelert (GER) completed the 2011 Roth Challenge Iron distance triathlon in an amazing time of 7:41:33.
Shortly into the bike section Andreas went into the lead and stayed in front for the whole race.
Sebastian Kienle finished 2nd again 2 years running at Roth but broke the magic 8 hour barrier.

Chrissie Wellington (GBR) 34 years old wins Roth Challenge Iron distance & finishes 5th overall in 8:18:13 beating her world record in the process by over a minute.
She started swimming the 3.8km at 6:30 German time and by 2:49 in the afternoon had finished the Iron distance with an average speed of 16 miles an hour for swimming cycling and running 140.6 mile.
After her amazing 49:49 swim Ironmate Mark predicted even before she had cycled 5km that she would do 8:18:52 leading the Iron distance triathlon form start to finish.
Her T2 transition times was a scorching 1 minutes 55 seconds
Chrissie finished the swim and bike in a combined time including her first transition in 5 hours 32 minutes and 33 seconds and within 1 minute and 17 seconds was starting the marathon.

German rookie Julia Wagner finished 2nd in 8:56:23 and Rebekah Keat from Australia also broke the 9 hour barrier with 8:59:22.

44 men & 3 females recorded times under 9 hours.
47 went sub 9 hours in Roth in 2011.
