BEST TIME TO WEIGHT TRAIN?
The list below tells you what to do when.

Pre-season – Weight train before the swim as you want to emphasis strength. The swim will be more technique work and weights will not affect your swimming during this phase of your build up.

Pre-competition season – Endurance is your key focus so reduce weight and increase repetitions. Don’t worry if the weight training affects your swimming performance during this phase. Weight train before or after training until last 4 weeks to the start of the season then only weight train after swim bike & run.

Competition season – Swim Bike & Run before weight training. You need to have fresh fast twitch muscles for the quality sessions, however you can weight train before the easier recovery work outs.

Past end of year after competition season – You should weight train before swimming cycling & running to regain back strength lost from the racing season.
