70.3 Triathlon Information

70.3 Triathlon is a half Ironman also known as a middle distance triathlon.
The 70.3 distance is 1.2 mile swim (1.9km) 56 mile cycle (90km) and half marathon 13.1 miles (21.1km).
This is a stepping stone event from an Olympic distance triathlon to half the ironman distance to prepare people for the 140.6 miles (226.27km) Ironman (2.4 mile swim 112 mile cycle 26.2 mile marathon)

The 70.3 World Series first started in 2006.
In 2011 over 60,000 competitors will compete in an official 70.3 distance around the globe in the international 70.3 World Series.

The event was originally held in Clearwater Florida and has now moved in 2011 to Lake Las Vegas in Henderson Nevada.
1,800 competitors who place high in their age group will qualify to compete in the 70.3 world championship triathlon.

The event is minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip.

Course description
1.2 mile swim in Lake Las Vegas starting at Las Vegas Resort
56 miles through Lake Mead National Recreation on tough hills with several very steep climbs.
13.1 miles.
Henderson’s scenic residential area overlooking the Las Vegas strip.

Age of competitors will be from 18 to over 70 all compete in 5 year age bands.

Age group winners will automatically qualify for the 70.3 in 2012.

Prize money of $100,000 for the top male and female professionals.

Over 2,500 from the local community friends and family will help during race week.
